Claremore - Rachel Frances (Coleman) Ouellette, a Claremore, Oklahoma resident, passed away Friday, May 30, 2025 at Hillcrest South, Tulsa, after a brief illness, at the age of 89, surrounded by family.

Rachel was born on March 30, 1936, in Ft. Towson, Oklahoma, to Jimmie and Lucille (Tims) Coleman. Rachel was very proud of her Choctaw heritage coming from both her parents. She graduated from Claremore High School in 1954. She became a registered nurse after graduating from St. John's School of Nursing, Tulsa, in 1957. Early in her nursing career, she worked at the infirmary at Oklahoma Military Academy, Claremore. She moved to Houston for a nursing job and met her husband, Robert (Bob) Ouellette. Bob, a French Canadian from Montreal, took his bride to Boston while he was working on his Ph.D. They were married for 62 years. Their son, Christopher, was born in Boston. Then they moved to Falls Church, Virginia, where their son, David, was born. Rachel worked as an R.N. until she retired from Columbia Hospital for Women in Washington, D.C. She always took pride in her nursing and received many accolades for her work.

Travel was Rachel's true passion. Rachel and Bob traveled the world seeing all 50 states, much of Europe, and South America. She loved to take photographs of all the places they went. Shopping was considered another of Rachel's hobbies and she was always generous with her gifts. Her adventurous spirit will be deeply missed.

Rachel is survived by her husband, Bob, of the home, sons, Christopher, of the home, and David, of Portland, Oregon; sisters, Genevieve and husband, Clifford, Cheryl Sixkiller, and Gwen Lester, all of Claremore, sister-in-law, Gloria Coleman of Moore, Oklahoma. She is also survived by a very large extended family of nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews, both in the U.S and in Canada.

She is preceded in death by her parents, sister, Virginia Marie, brother James of Moore, Oklahoma, brother-in-law, Rodney Lester, and nephew, Michael Collier of Claremore, Oklahoma.

A visitation will be held for Rachel Thursday evening June 5, at Rice Funeral Service and a Funeral Service June 6, at 2:00pm at Christ United Methodist Church, 317 South Davis Avenue. Claremore, Oklahoma 74017.
