Services honoring and remembering Richard Ray Carriger will be held in the Chapel of the Garden at Rice Funeral Service on Friday, November 8th, 2019 at 2:00 p.m.
Ray Carriger passed away Sunday, November 3, 2019 at his home in Big Cabin, OK with his family by his side.
Ray was born October 3rd, 1936 in Claremore, Oklahoma, the son of Homer Fredrick and Opal Pearl Carriger.
He grew up in the Claremore area and was a graduate of Sequoyah High School. He resided in the Claremore area for over 40 years and owned a dairy farm east of town for much of that time. He served on the Sequoyah School Board of Education for over 20+ years. A huge accomplishment during that time of service, was his creation and startup of the school's football program. Because of his passion for education and sports he was a longtime active member of the Sequoyah Sports Booster Club.
Ray loved all sports but had a special place in his heart for baseball. He enjoyed watching his boys play- all 7 of them. Through the years Ray coached many baseball teams and will be remembered for the impact he made on the players lives. He once said when he died, he hoped he was on 3rd base coaching.
Later in Ray's life he remarried and moved to the Ketchum area where he raised his younger boys. Through those years he worked as a self-employed contractor before his retirement. When his schedule would allow it, he loved to hunt and fish with all his boys.
Ray will be remembered by all who knew him. He loved his family and those who survived are:
