Claremore, OK - Funeral Service for Saundra Gail Hurst-Melton will be Monday, July 15, 2024 at First Presbyterian Church in Claremore at 10:30 am. Visitation will be at Floral Haven Funeral Home in Broken Arrow on Sunday, July 14, 2024 from 2 pm to 4 pm. Saundra peacefully passed away with family by her side on July 8, 2024 at the age of 86.

The daughter of Lloyd Franklin Hurst and Helen Kathleen Savage-Marlar was born in Muskogee, OK on July 7, 1938. Saundra was raised in Pawhuska, Bristow and Tulsa and graduated from Bristow High School and attended Draughon's Business School in Tulsa and soon after met and married Leon Melton on November 15, 1957. Saundra and Leon started their family where they resided in Tulsa and moved to Claremore in 1969. Saundra was a stay-at-home mom until their children reached school age. At that time, she went to work at The Claremore Daily Progress, Nelson Electric, Mabee Petroleum and ultimately retiring from American Airlines. Saundra enjoyed traveling, gardening and canning her harvested vegetables, crocheting, cards, playing piano and singing with family.

She is preceded in death by her parents, husband Leon Melton and infant son, Billy Leon Melton. Survivors include her sons, Jimmie Melton, David Melton and wife, Lisa, daughter Leah Melton-Harman and husband Clayton; grandchildren Sarah Melton-Roach and husband Eddie, John Melton, Matthew Harman, Benjamin Harman, Brandon Melton, Donnie McDonald and Kami Lockhart; 6 great-grandchildren and many other family and friends, especially Ida Belle Long and Tammy Lankford. And a special thank you to the staff at The Courtyards Assisted Living Center in Claremore for their loving care and friendship over the last year.
