Wayne Edward Walton Obituary

On May 6th , 2024, Wayne Edward Walton left this earth to join his beautiful wife, Joyce, for eternity. Their union over 67 years ago serves as an example that, above all else, we must love one another. Wayne was born to Jack and Pearl Walton in Elk City, Oklahoma, on April 21st , 1937. He was truly the baby of the family, being the youngest of four. At the time of his birth, his brother Joe was 12 years old, and his two older sisters, Lorena and Dunnie were 23 years and 21 years old. He was proud of his heritage and would talk about his dad, Jack Walton, owning the first Ford dealership in western Oklahoma, and how Lorena and Dunnie would drive Model A's as kids, from Oklahoma City to the dealership in Hammon. He graduated from OSU in 1961 with his Bachelor of Science, specializing in engineering and physics. He spent 32 years working for American Airlines in avionics and retired from there in September of 2000. But he always loved to tell stories from one of his first jobs out of college, launching Atlas missiles in Lompoc, California, as a real-life rocket scientist. Wayne helped raise their two sons, Brad and Doug, with a spirit of curiosity and passion for the world around them. He shared his love for nature and people through his hobbies of photography and self-taught meteorology, with dreams of becoming a storm chaser always a possibility to the very end. He loved to fish. Joyce and Wayne together could host the best fish fry, with Wayne always making sure there was more than enough for everyone and prompting us to "get to eating" while he managed the fryer. He loved sports with the same passion as his "Joycee", and together they were superfans for their beloved Texas Rangers, OSU basketball, RSU baseball, and many others. The long-held family title of "life planner" was Wayne's, due to his passion for organization and planning, his need to live life to the fullest and not leave anything out, and his desire for sharing... all of his ideas. His care and attention to detail will not be forgotten. Wayne loved the church, and he loved sharing Jesus Christ with others. He was dedicated to the Oklahoma Jail Ministry for many years, and he and Joyce loved their Sunday School children as their own. Wayne's joy in sharing his interest in the world, and his love for the people in his life, will live on in all his family, but especially in the spirit of his grandchildren, Olivia and Charley, on whose lives he had a profound impact. His love for them, and for Steph and JP more recently, was not held back. He overflowed with happiness at every moment spent with "the kids" until the very end. Wayne and Joyce lived a life of faith with love for all those around them. They will be dearly missed.
